June 28-30, 1968 Avalon Ballroom, San Francisco, CA It’s A Beautiful Day, Santana Blues Band

Although the Youngbloods are on this Avalon poster, it is more likely that they played Sacramento on Friday and Saturday (28 and 29).

June 28-29, 1968 Sound Factory, Sacramento, CA Quicksilver Messenger Service, H.P. Lovecraft, Wake Forest

The Sound Factory was at 1817 Alhambra, and was the psychedelic Ballroom in Sacramento. If The Youngbloods were headlining in Sacramento, it explains why the Sir Douglas Quintet were on the bill at the Avalon. The Sound Factory was managed by former Avalon (and Crystal Ballroom) manager Whitey Davis, so some confusion or crossover in bookings is not far-fetched.

Jazz Action Movement (JAM) Benefit

This outdoor show was reviewed in detail by teenage diarist Faren Miller. The Electric Flag featured Hoshal Wright instead of Mike Bloomfield (who had quit). The Youngbloods were a trio (Banana, JC Young, Joe Bauer) for this show, presaging future developments (see August 15, 1968).

The afternoon of the 15th, at SFO International Airport, Jerry Corbitt announced he wasn’t prepared to fly. This was probably a culmination of many other issues, but Corbitt left the group.
